Since it's opening in 1997, Joe Benson has been the voice of the California Speedway. In that role, he handles the master of ceremonies duties for race day, as well as doing play-by-play announcing with his old friend Shawn Parr.
April 26-28, 2002: For the 6th year Uncle Joe announced the NASCAR Winston Cup NAPA Auto Parts 500 at the California Speedway in Fontana. The Uncle Joe's Nissan 300ZX race car on display all weekend at the ARROW 93 booth, and J.B. joined Chris Taylor for a live Broadcast Saturday. The rest of the weekend was spent catching up with old friends like Sheryl Crow, Al Unser Jr. and Jimmie Johnson (who also won Sunday's race).
